![]() What is LEED®?The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LEED certified buildings use key resources like energy, water, materials and land more efficiently than buildings that are just built to code. Everyone: Architects, real estate professionals, facility managers, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, construction managers, lenders, governmental officials… can use LEED. Alliance Construction Solutions is committed to building Green and utilizing the LEED certification where we can. We utilize LEED or Green practices on every job site and in the office. On the jobsite, we recycle as much material as possible as well as instill LEED approved practices in the design and construction of a commercial building. With respect to cost, we look at short-term costs as well as long-term costs of owning and operating a facility. Our project team examines LEED options for the building that bring the owner cost savings over time and create advantages to the owner for maintaining the facility in years to come. The LEED system was designed to guide and distinguish high-performance commercial and institutional projects, with a focus on office building. Practitioners have also applied the system to K-12 schools, multi-unit residential buildings, manufacturing plants, laboratories and many other building types. A wealth of new technology is adding function, value and high performance to today's commercial buildings. Integrated design processes allow project teams to take full advantage of these technologies and at the lowest net cost. With more natural light and better air quality, green buildings typically contribute to improved employee and student health, comfort and productivity. Alliance Construction Solutions is a proud member of the US Green Building Council and employs an impressive number of LEED Accredited Professionals and LEED Trained Professionals. Below are a few of the LEED projects in which Alliance Construction Solutions was a key team member and our experience with them. If you are interested in learning more about LEED, please contact us today. On our Pioneer Charter School project, Alliance Construction Solutions was instrumental in the research and recommendation on sustainable alternatives implemented into the original architectural design including Insulated Structural Panels, Radiant Heat Systems, Insulated Concrete Forms and integrated designated daylighting systems. For the Burr Oak Design Center, Alliance Construction Solutions was chosen as the Design/Build contractor based largely on our dedication and experience in the LEED Northern Colorado program for sustainable building alternatives and green building practices. The project team worked together to build one of the most energy-efficient buildings in Northern Colorado and incorporated heating and air conditioning systems that consume only one-fifth of the energy of traditional buildings; natural lighting; "dark-sky" artificial lighting to reduce light pollution. Burr Oak earned a LEED Silver Certification from the USGBC. Nederland Community Center is a demolition and renovation project in which the majority of the project has been based on "Green Building" sustainable alternatives with specific focus on design-build, integrated design consultants and high performance building design and construction. Nederland was recently awarded a LEED Gold Certification. Another Design/Build project is the United Way Day Services Center in Fort Collins in which each component of the desired building goals were met with both value analysis and energy efficient sustainable options to not only provide potential cost savings but to make the facility occupant friendly for the daily activities defined by the United Way programs met by the facility. Such options have included lighting sensors, motion controlled amenities and facilities and daylighting just to name a few. The USGBC ceremony for LEED Silver Certification on this building was celebrated on February 4th, 2010. Two current Alliance projects with minimum LEED Silver goals are Morgan Community College in Ft Morgan, Colorado and Green Valley Ranch Library in Denver, CO. |
